Did the drugs really abuse his perception of life and/ or help him create the stories he did??

What did the eye symbolize?

I think that the old man is blind is in that one blue eye because I picture it as a cloudy blue eye. And when an eye is cloudy it probably has cataracts which probably gives that creepy feeling.

I think that Poe emphasized the words that he wanted to stand out by capitalizing them and repeating them. It's part of his writing style but it also shows the man's insanity level because most people wouldn't think about these things repeatedly and wanting to scream it out.

Also I think he is trying to show how regret can make a person go insane by having the man scream at the end of the story and finally admit what happens.

I think the evil eye is making the man crazy and that is why he wanted to kill him.

I think that the drugs could definatley have an effect in his writing. It could just be like some opium hangover or some thing.

I tthink that it was a little bit of both because I think that the abuse of his perception of life helped him to create the stories that he did.

I agree with what Camille said (ps sorry I don't know how to spell your name) but I think the old mad viewed himself as different and weird because of his eye and also people viewed him that way.

drugs are probly a big influence to his stories he may not have written them while he was under the influence but he probly took memories and ideas that he came up with while he was under the influence.

i think the eye was created as a scapegoat for him and how he sees himself. How he thinks people see him and his insecurities.

I think that the drugs really did effect his writing! Even if he wasn't under the influence when he was writing.
